COVID-19 Policy

Pet Partners continues to endorse vaccination as well as masking when recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), or applicable local public health guidance. However, as of March 1, 2022, we have ended the COVID-19 vaccination expectation as an organization policy. The following articulates the current policy for therapy animal visitation and Pet Partners events.

Pet Partners recognizes that facilities receiving volunteers have always been responsible for weighing the risk of therapy animal visits. As variants of COVID-19 may continue to affect how facilities manage that risk, Pet Partners is transferring the decision regarding vaccination status for volunteers to individual facilities.

Registered therapy animal teams making in-person visits are required to proactively communicate to any facility their vaccination status, and to comply with the facility’s rules and regulations regarding COVID-19, including the wearing of masks.

At Pet Partners team evaluations and Pet Partners in-person, instructor-led workshops, registered or prospective volunteers will be subject to the requirements of the local jurisdiction and the venue hosting the event, as well as the volunteer leaders coordinating the event. Vaccinations, masks, and prudent social distancing may be required at these events. If you have questions about vaccination or mask requirements for an upcoming evaluation or workshop, please contact your evaluator or instructor directly.

Different facilities and different events may have different requirements regarding COVID-19. Pet Partners volunteers are responsible for understanding and following these requirements. Misrepresenting your vaccination status or intentionally disregarding COVID-19 requirements violates the Pet Partners code of ethics and, as with all violations, may result in disciplinary action.
