The Picture of Comfort

Lisa King
Pet Partners Handler

I wanted to share this photo taken of Megan and me at a nursing home visit on 12/27/2019.  When we passed our first team evaluation in November of 2015, this facility in Ozark, Missouri was the first place we visited, and we have continued to conduct monthly visits ever since. We have expanded our therapy visits to include The Victim Center, a victim advocacy organization in Springfield, Missouri, which provides services to victims of sexual abuse and violent crimes, men and women, all ages. Megan and I are there two times a week as volunteers, meeting and greeting and providing comfort to everyone that comes in and out of the center, and, of course, to staff as well.

I love this photo so much. To see Megan do her job so effortlessly while trusting me to be her advocate and partner epitomizes what Megan and I strive for as a therapy team. On this particular visit, we were being shadowed by our volunteer coordinator for Compassus, a hospice service, and she was conducting our annual evaluation as Compassus volunteers.  We were totally unaware that she took this picture, and I love what it captures.
