Thank you to the following medical professionals who volunteer countless hours to support Pet Partners Therapy Animal Program, by regularly reviewing and keeping a pulse on research and recommendations from veterinarians, healthcare, public health, and infection control professionals in relation to animal-assisted interventions.

Gregg K. Takashima, DVM
Gregg Takashima, DVM, is the President American Association Hospital Association. Dr. Takashima was a Hubbs Seaworld associate and earned an NOAH and Sea Grant Fellowship in Marine Ecology. He then graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1983 and began his associate veterinary work at Lakeland Veterinary Hospital before opening his own practice, GKT Contract Veterinary Services. Within two years, his practice grew to include the Parkway Veterinary Hospital, and became GKT Enterprises, which Takashima still owns and operates at founder and president. Takashima has been part of the Portland Veterinary Medical Association, a board member of the DoveLewis Memorial Emergency and Critical Care Animal Hospital, Board Chairman of Delta Society and a member of AAHA’s Practice Team and Membership Audit and Control committees since 2000.

J. Scott Weese DVM DVSc DipACVIM
Dr. Weese is a veterinary internist and microbiologist. He is an Associate Professor at the Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph and a Zoonotic Disease/Public health Microbiologist at the University of Guelph’s Centre for Public Health and Zoonoses. He is also Chief of Infection Control at the Ontario Veterinary College Teaching Hospital and holds a Canada Research Chair in zoonotic diseases. Dr .Weese obtained his veterinary medical degree (DVM) from the University of Guelph. After time in veterinary practice, he received internal medicine training at the University of Guelph and completed at Doctor of Veterinary Science (DVSc) program. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. Dr. Weese’s research interests are focused on zoonotic and antimicrobial resistant pathogens, particularly methicillin-resistant staphylococci and Clostridium difficile. He is also actively involved in veterinary infection control research and emerging veterinary and zoonotic diseases.

Autumn P. Davidson DVM, MS, Dipl. ACVIM
Dr. Davidson obtained her BS and MS at the University of California, Berkeley, with an emphasis in wildlife ecology and management. Dr. Davidson is a graduate of the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis. She completed an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Texas A&M University, and a residency in Small Animal Internal Medicine at the University of California, Davis. She became board certified in Internal Medicine in 1992.
Dr. Davidson is a clinical professor at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of California, Davis, in the department of medicine and epidemiology. She specializes in small animal theriogenology (reproduction). Additionally, Dr. Davidson practices at the Animal Care Center of Sonoma, a private referral practice, where she receives both internal medicine and reproduction cases.

Michael R. Lappin, DVM, PhD, DACVIM
After graduating from Oklahoma State University in 1981, Dr. Lappin completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the University of Georgia. After 2 years in a small animal practice in Los Angeles, he returned to the University of Georgia where he completed a small animal internal medicine residency and a PhD in Parasitology. Dr. Lappin was board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 1987. He is currently Professor of Small Animal Internal Medicine at the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University. Dr. Lappin studies feline infectious and immune-mediated diseases and has written over 200 primary research manuscripts and book chapters. His principal areas of interest are prevention of infectious diseases, the upper respiratory disease complex, infectious causes of fever, infectious causes of diarrhea, and zoonoses of cats. Dr. Lappin on the editorial board of Feline Medicine and Surgery and Compendium for Continuing Education for the Practicing Veterinarian and is the editor of the textbook, Feline Internal Medicine Secrets.Dr. Lappin has received the Beecham Research Award and the Norden Distinguished Teaching Award. Dr. Lappin is the Kenneth W. Smith Professor in Small Animal Clinical Veterinary Medicine at Colorado State University and is currently the Assistant Department Head for Research. He was the chairperson of the AAFP Panel on Feline Zoonoses and the AAFP Bartonella Panel Report. Dr. Lappin is the director of the “Center for Companion Animal Studies.” He was selected to receive the European Society of Feline Medicine International Award 2008 for Outstanding Contribution to Feline Medicine and the Winn Feline Research Award in 2009.

Deirdre Chiaramonte, DVM, DACVIM
Deirdre Chiaramonte is currently a staff internist and the director of The Tina Santi Flaherty Rehabilitation and Fitness service at The Animal Medical Center. She received her DVM from Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine, Massachusetts in 1997 and completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at The Animal Medical Center from 1997-1998. She became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine in 2004 after completing a small animal internal medicine residency at The Animal Medical Center. Dr. Chiaramonte is certified in canine rehabilitation and is seeking certification in acupuncture. Current interests are in the fields of canine rehabilitation, obesity and geriatrics. She has been invited to speak at CVC Baltimore, ACVC Atlantic City and WVC Las Vegas.
