Children who are learning to read are often hesitant about their reading abilities. Many kids feel more at ease reading to pets, who are simply there to listen—not to judge how well they are reading.
Reading to pets is an amazing way to get your child excited about reading during the summer! Pets are loving, nonjudgmental listeners that can help your child feel more comfortable while practicing reading. Studies have shown that children who read to dogs achieve higher end-of-year reading scores (Kirnan, Siminerio, & Wong, 2016). Keeping readers engaged during the summer months is important, and pets can make summer reading exciting. To encourage children around the world to read to their pets this summer, Pet Partners is giving away a Kindle to one randomly-selected reader who pledges to read this summer as a part of the We Are All Ears initiative. Pledges must be received by July 31, 2021 to be entered in the giveaway. Take the pledge and get reading!
We want to help kids continue reading through the summer in preparation for a return to in-person learning in the fall. Gear up for summer reading by taking the pledge!
