The Enduring Legacy of the Delta Giving Society

In 1977, a team of visionaries led by veterinarians Dr. Leo K. Bustad and Dr. William McCullough, alongside psychiatrist Dr. Michael J. McCullough, established the Delta Foundation, which became the Delta Society, in Portland, OR. They had observed that pets have an undeniable positive impact on the health, well-being, and happiness of their patients. This insight has sparked over four decades of growth and development, including the creation of our Therapy Animal Program, in 1991. In 2012, the Delta Society became officially known as Pet Partners—creating a cohesive connection between our purpose, mission, and programs. Today, Pet Partners continues to honor the heritage and foundation of our organization through the Delta Giving Society.
