Layla was just beginning her journey as a remarkable therapy dog when tragedy struck. She was set to make a meaningful impact in the schools she had started visiting, bringing her unique blend of unconditional love and warmth to every child she met. Layla was truly a loving and devoted canine partner, ready to bring comfort and joy to those in need.

However, within just 24 hours, Layla’s life took an unexpected turn. She suddenly couldn’t walk, and devastatingly, veterinarians discovered tumors around her spine. Despite the best efforts to help her, Layla passed away in November 2024, only a month after becoming a registered therapy dog.

Though her time as a therapy animal was tragically short, Layla’s vibrant spirit will forever be remembered. She loved swimming in the lakes, chasing a ball, hiking scenic trails, riding in the truck, or simply curling up on the couch for a cozy snuggle. Layla brought boundless energy and affection to every moment, leaving an indelible mark on everyone she met.

In honor of Layla, her legacy will live on through a pilot program currently in development. Named “Love and Loyalty with Layla,” the program will continue her mission of spreading kindness and compassion in schools, ensuring that her memory inspires others to give and receive unconditional love.

Rest in peace, sweet Layla Bourget. You may be gone, but your legacy of love and loyalty will continue to touch countless lives.
